Legal services are of central importance for consumers, our economy and wider society: On average, 7-8m people experience a legal problem every year 3 out of 10 small businesses face a legal problem every year Estimated annual losses to small businesses due to legal problems is £40bn The sector contributes around £37bn to the economy and employs 350k people An estimated 1m individuals suffer ill health as a result of legal problems annually. Job purpose: The post holder will support the provision of an exceptional finance and procurement service to the Legal Services Board’s internal and external stakeholders and deliver tangible outputs to improve this provision. This role will create resilience in Finance and Procurement, providing additional resource and cover to the Finance and IT Associate and the Head, Finance, IT and Procurement. General responsibilities include: Produce financial information in response to requests from internal stakeholders and external stakeholders eg. budget holders, the Ministry of Justice, National Audit Office, Deloitte and HMRC. Provide support to all colleagues and budget holders to ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately and comply within all relevant policies, procedures and guidelines. Provide support to enable payments to be made when required. Provide support to the month end process and year end audit process, when required. Assist the Head, Finance, IT and Procurement in developing reporting from the accounting system Undertake ad hoc pieces of financial or procurement work and provide support to project finance activity. Specific, project-based responsibilities include: Preparation and submission of the annual analysis of relevant spend for the PAYE settlement agreement (PSA) to HMRC. Assist with the financial and procurement aspects of the office move in 2025. Design and implementation of a purchase order system on the accounting system (Dynamics 365 Business Central). Migration to a new Government bank account. Migration of organisation’s expenses onto payroll for payment. Reporting lines This post will report to the Head, Finance, IT and Procurement. Skills, experience and qualities Qualified accountant with a sound knowledge of accounting systems Experience of management accounting and financial accounting Experience of improving processes Excellent IT skills with exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Power BI Experience of delivering accounting or purchase order systems Familiarity with government accounting requirements, the Financial Report Manual (FReM) and NAO reporting requirements. Experience of developing reports from accounting systems Familiar with accounts payable and payroll processing Self-motivated, resourceful and capable of acting on own initiative Team player, capable of forming positive working relationships with contacts at all levels Excellent communication skills, orally and in writing Understanding of confidentiality and capable of acting with integrity Benefits The hours are 21 hours per week over a minimum four days with a competitive salary, a defined contribution pension scheme with an employer’s contribution of 12-13% of salary, benefits allowance of 10%, which can be taken as salary and an annual leave entitlement of 25 days in addition to statutory bank holidays. Salary: circa £55-60,000 per year pro rata (£33-36,000 for 0.6 FTE).
