JOB SUMMARY
VMA GROUP & Jack Pascoe have partnered with one of the largest travel bodies, who are seeking a media and PR officer to join their marketing and communications function. The right candidate will have worked in a similar role and has the right attitude and energy to succeed in supporting the team across a variety of activities.
The role encompasses both reactive and proactive media activities, handling press inquiries from national, regional, and trade media. You will also assist in the development and execution of multi-channel media and PR campaigns as well as the reports and research.
As a key member of the crisis communications team, the Media and PR Officer will remain composed under pressure, managing media inquiries effectively.
Additionally, the role involves overseeing the collection and reporting of media coverage, as well as maintaining relationships with suppliers.
The successful candidate will be an organised, exceptional writer, with a can-do attitude who is willing to be present in the offices, South London, 3 days a week.
Responsibilities:
1. Handle media enquiries in an effective and timely way, including fielding media calls, drafting statements and liaising with spokespeople.
2. Support senior spokespeople within the media team and across the organisation in providing clear briefings and messaging ahead of media interviews.
3. Keep abreast of the news agenda and travel industry issues, proactively identifying media opportunities and story ideas.
4. Play an active role in media team in dealing with crises and issues and working collaboratively with other team members and departments.
5. Be alert to emerging events/issues which may affect the business, their customers or the wider industry and respond in a timely way, delivering an appropriate communications response that gives consideration to different channels.
6. Participate in an on-call out-of-hours press office rota, being available to respond to the media and developments which affect members or customers.
7. Participate in cross departmental and external meetings to communicate updates on projects and provide comms expertise. Feed back the outcomes of the meeting to the wider comms team in a timely manner.
8. Undertake any reasonable task that may be requested by the Media and Communications Manager or other senior members of the communications team.
