Vicon is a subsidiary of Oxford Metrics Plc. The Product Management Team at Vicon is part of the Product Delivery department and consists of Product Group Managers, Product Managers, Product Owners, and Product Specialists with strong technical backgrounds and a high level of domain knowledge. They are responsible for proposing, road mapping, releasing, and maintaining products within a defined market sector. These products include software, input to hardware and accessories, and product documentation that constitute an end user solution.
Aligning products to meet company strategic goals and technology needs, with the key measure of success being profitable product lines that fulfil customer and market needs. Therefore, this role will work collaboratively with the other members of the Vicon Product Delivery Team and interface directly with senior managers across Product Delivery, Engineering, and Machine Learning & Research to achieve this alignment.
Vicon have inward and outward-facing duties. Outward-facing responsibilities include market & trend analysis, conference attendance & pre-sales assistance including product demonstrations and product rollouts.
Product Owners collect input from key stakeholders including Product Managers, Sales, Sales Enablement, Project Management, Support and Engineering, alongside strategic goals, and prioritised product plans. This is then translated to collaborative work packages.
Working with Product Marketing to ensure that products align with current company branding guidelines and assist in the generation of marketing asset content. The Product Management Team provide the technical input and domain knowledge into the creation of technical content including specification sheets, brochures, videos, press releases and product web pages. Product Management and Product Marketing also work closely to form product marketing messages.
The Product Management Team have an important communication role within the organisation. This includes feedback on feature requests, product issues, presentation of product launch plans and release timelines. During product releases, Product Management provides technical overviews to the Sales and Support teams, ensuring the vision, feature values and product release plans are understood. These are accomplished with product release presentations, specific training sessions and the provision of release materials and assets (i.e., beta installers, docs, videos, Confluence pages and follow-up web sessions).
Key Responsibilities
This role is an exciting opportunity to help build and manage the Vicon hardware roadmap and our integration with third party vendors. Vicon’s main hardware product are our motion capture cameras which are used across all markets served, with other products and third-party integrations having market specific features.
As the Product Owner for Hardware & Integration you will help define the direction and development of all hardware products including embedded software that are supplied to Vicon’s global user base. You will also be responsible for ensuring Vicon’s compatibility with third party vendors’ products we work with both now and in the future.
The role may involve some domestic and international travel, representing the company at customer sites but also conferences and trade shows. Common tasks are the presentation of new products, direct interaction with key clients and attending talks on other technology developments in the industry. Other travel will include trips to the other Vicon offices, including Los Angeles and Denver, to coordinate with people across the business.
Vicon is looking for a candidate with a strong background in electro-mechanical engineering with some product management experience. Dynamic communication and presentation skills are important. Experience with production manufacturing techniques, optics, broadcast standards and embedded software would be distinct assets.
The position reports to the Product Group Manager for Entertainment and Hardware.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Engineering, Design, or a closely aligned field.
* A minimum of 2 years as a product manager or product owner in a related technology area industry. Experience of motion capture a distinct advantage.
* Detailed knowledge and experience of electromechanical design.
* Demonstrable knowledge of optics and PCs.
* Knowledge of embedded software, broadcast standards and RF is desirable.
* Experience of feature prioritization and product differentiation.
* Experience working directly with suppliers in the electrical and mechanical design and manufacturing industries.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Confident and demonstrable presentation skills.
* The right to legally work and reside in the UK.
