The Manager of Finance is the financial lead for the VNA, reporting directly to the Director of Finance and supporting the Vice President of Finance at Kent Hospital. The individual in this role will be responsible for having in-depth knowledge of all financial aspects of the VNA, including accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. They will also work closely with the Director to establish and uphold a culture of financial responsibility that contributes value to the organization. Additionally, they will collaborate with various departments and the CNE Finance team to achieve shared objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
At the direction of the Director, provides financial support and leadership in (4) major areas:
Director Support
1. Support the monthly financial close process through variance analysis, report preparation and performance summarization.
2. Closely monitor VNA labor productivity and statistical volumes. Analyze and report any significant performance variances.
3. Perform ad hoc financial analysis as assigned by the Director or VNA leadership team.
4. Represent the VNA at hospital meetings or committees as necessary.
Leadership Team Support
1. Serve as the primary point of contact for the VNA managers on all financial matters. Ensure that monthly financial information is readily available to VNA managers and along with the Director, create and promote a culture of financial accountability to bring value to the organization.
2. Work with VNA managers and the Director to identify opportunities to improve the financial position of the VNA.
3. Work with VNA managers to maximize productivity and resource management.
4. Support management in the review of payroll reports (Productivity, FTEs and OT) and monthly expense reports, and coordinate the implementation of corrective action plans to achieve targets.
5. Serve as the point person for the annual VNA operating and capital budget process. Must develop expert level knowledge of the Kaufman Hall budget system and be able to train VNA managers on the system.
6. Provide technical assistance to department managers as required.
Financial Analysis and Reporting / CNE Corporate Finance
1. Support general accounting in the monthly close process by keeping them informed of any significant trends or issues that would have an impact on the financial statements. Recommend accruals or adjustments as needed. Participate in financial close meetings with accounting as well as System financial leadership.
2. Work with the Strategic Financial Planning (SFP) department in an effort to further expand and maximize the utilization of the Kaufman Hall financial system.
3. Work with Research Accounting to monitor all research-related expenditures and revenue recognition.
Special Projects
1. Assist in ROI analysis of new business initiatives.
2. Support general accounting and the Director on the annual financial audit. Respond to audit inquiries as necessary.
3. Support revenue cycle initiatives at assigned operating unit.
4. Communicate with internal or external customers (i.e. vendors) regarding business cycle transactions.
5. Participate in the continual development of cost accounting systems to provide better financial information on service line and departmental profitability.
6. Prepare information for internal and external statistical and financial surveys.
7. Assist on special projects as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, Masters preferred.
Must have 3-5 years financial experience, preferably in healthcare industry. Academic and research experience preferred.
Excellent judgment as well as critical, strategic, and analytical thinking required.
