Sidney House and The Laurels Surgery has an opportunity for a 20 hour per week part-time receptionist to join our friendly and supportive team. The working pattern is: Tuesday 1:30 pm – 6:30pm Thursday 1:30 pm – 6:30pm Friday 8am-6:30pm In this essential front-line role at the practice, receptionists help patients to access the right services, which is not always a doctor, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date, and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed. Receptionists must be confident working with the general public, and able to remain calm under pressure. Patients are being encouraged to use online systems to contact their surgeries and so the successful candidate must be confident with IT and be prepared to fully embrace digital ways of working. The main responsibilities of the role include: Greeting and directing all patients. Making appointments and giving out appointment cards, where required. Accepting, issuing and handing out prescriptions, letters, completed forms, specimen bottles, etc. Dealing with requests for information, and managing problems and complaints. Advising patients of practice procedures. Registering new patients. Answering the telephone promptly. Promoting the use of online services as a means of accessing healthcare. Chaperoning for colleagues and patients when requested. About the Candidate The post requires a polite and reliable person with patience and compassion. The ability to converse with patients of all ages and needs is essential. Previous experience of working with the general public is essential, and experience in general practice and knowledge of SystmOne is an advantage, although full training will be provided. We are looking for someone who: Has excellent communication skills. Has a polite telephone manner. Is confident using IT and can quickly pick up new software skills. Is able to work as part of a team but to have initiative and be able to work independently. Understands and carries out duties within the rules of Data Protection and confidentiality protocols. Has flexibility to provide annual leave and absence cover for colleagues. Enjoys a fast-paced environment and is able to work under pressure. Is able to travel to either of our surgery sites, in Hatfield Peverel, or in Boreham. Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues. About Us We are a two-site training practice based in the semi-rural villages of Hatfield Peverel and Boreham, serving a patient population of 11,300. We are a SystmOne Practice with a consistently high QOF achievement and a CQC rating of Good. We are part of the Aegros PCN with Lt. Waltham and Great Notley, Douglas Grove Surgery and the Beacon Health Group. Our team is made up of three GP partners, five salaried GPs, a paramedic practitioner, a nurse prescriber, practice nurse, two HCAs, a phlebotomist and dispensers. We are further supported by PCN staff including a pharmacist and physiotherapist. Additionally we have a well established non-clinical team of managers, administrators, dispensers and receptionists.
