Are you an experienced SAP (Senior Authorised Person) with deep knowledge of transmission systems? Do you have a passion for developing others and leading training initiatives? If so, this is your chance to play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of engineers at National Grid. Part time considered for the right candidate.
We’re looking for a skilled SAP to lead engineering growth in the South East, covering Kent, Sussex, and Hampshire. Your expertise in National Grid’s Safety Rules and authorisations (CP, AP, SAP, and Project Lead) will help upskill and support our teams—ranging from apprentices, direct entrants and existing engineers.
As a key training engineer, you’ll:
1. Support and mentor engineers, ensuring each trainee is tracked and regularly reviewed.
2. Enhance team resilience by improving authorisation and training standards.
3. Work closely with Operations Managers to develop teams and strengthen expertise.
4. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for National Grid’s authorisation processes, NSIs (National Safety Instructions), and PL (Project Lead Authorisation).
Qualifications, skills and experience
1. HNC Engineering qualification or relevant experience.
2. Proven experience as a Senior Authorised Person (current or previously held).
3. Strong knowledge of National Grid’s Safety Rules and authorisation framework (or equivalent).
4. A natural leader who thrives on coaching, mentoring, and developing others.
5. Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with engineers at all levels.
6. A proactive approach to improving authorisation standards and training resilience.

Pay and Benefits
1. A starting salary of £51,899 to £65,575 pa.
2. £4740 pa London Allowance where applicable.

5. 26 days annual leave plus 8 statutory days.
