The Recruitment Co are currently working with a large Public Sector body in recruiting for a Beef and Sheep Heard industrial.
The successful candidate will report to the Beef and Sheep Herd Manager/Team Leader and liaise closely with scientific staff at Hillsborough.
The Beef & Sheep unit operations consist of the following:
* Feeding cattle and sheep, including preparing experimental rations to specific experimental requirements, normally using a fixed-boom handler, tractor and mixer wagon, but also by hand or using a mini mixer. Ration preparation requires good numeracy skills. Recording feed offered and refusals both on paper and electronically.
* Pasture/grazing management, including grass cover monitoring, allocating pasture to stock, setting up fence lines, sowing fertiliser, topping paddocks, weed control and checking water troughs. Using decision support tools, such as Agri-net to assist with grazing management.
* Maintaining high animal health and welfare standards, including identifying and treating sick animals, routine health management, dosing, vaccination, hoof care, assisting veterinary practitioners. Adherence to strict bio-security protocols is essential.
These lists are not exclusive, and the successful candidate will be required to carry out other duties as allocated by management.
