He has food orally and a PEG in place for liquids and medication. He can walk short distances and uses a wheelchair for longer walks. Overview of role: The Deputy Care Manager will play a key role in all aspects of George’s care, including overseeing his daily routines, having input into the rota, ordering supplies, completing care logs, and collaborating closely with his family and care team. Since George has moved into a self-contained flat, he will need guidance and support to help him maintain his new living space, ensuring it stays clean and organised. He requires assistance with all aspects of daily living, including personal care, feeding, dressing, and play. In the morning, the Deputy Care Manager will support George in getting ready for school and accompany him in his wheelchair, either by walking (a short distance) or taking an Uber in poor weather. After school, which finishes at 3:00pm, George typically engages in activities like swimming or visiting the zoo before returning home for dinner. At mealtimes, his food needs to be chopped, and he requires encouragement and assistance to eat well. Throughout the day and night, George experiences epileptic seizures in various forms and requires constant monitoring. Waking night shifts involve closely observing him for seizures while ensuring he is comfortable and supported to get a good night’s rest. Weekends and school holidays provide a wonderful opportunity to engage George in community activities, as he loves spending time out and about. Unless he is unwell or the weather is particularly bad, weekends are typically filled with fun and adventure. This role requires flexibility and a long-term commitment, but for the right candidate, it offers an incredible opportunity for career growth, with comprehensive training from the Team Manager, while making a meaningful impact on George’s development and well-being.
