An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist to join our expanding team of Psychological Therapists in Step 4 Secondary Care Services. The post will be based four days in Newark and one day in Bassetlaw. You will contribute to the provision of specialist CBT within Step 4 Psychotherapy providing specialist CBT assessment and therapy for patients presenting with Anxiety, Depression and PTSD related Disorders.
You will also offer advice and consultation on patients’ psychological care to colleagues in other health and health-related professions and to other, non professional carers. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of CBP training programmes and offer CBP focused clinical supervision and consultation where appropriate.
Step 4 Psychotherapy, together with Psychological Health, Nottingham City and Psychology County make up Step 4 Psychological Therapies in the Adult Mental Health Directorate, which is part of the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
This post is to provide clinical capacity to treat patients presenting with Depression, anxiety related disorders and PTSD.
Other duties of the job will include, consultation and advice with other health care professionals, supervision and training programmes. You will also have the opportunity to influence service development within Step 4 psychotherapy Service's.
The successful applicant will join the wider Step 4 Psychotherapy staff team that consists of cognitive behaviour psychotherapists psychodynamic psychotherapists, consultant psychiatrists in psychotherapy and senior registrars training in psychotherapy. This provides a range of psychotherapies appropriate to patient need, including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Group Analytic Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapy, and EMDR.
Along with delivering treatment programmes, a wide range of training programmes is offered to staff from all disciplines at undergraduate, postgraduate and specialist levels. Step 4 Psychotherapy service also offers opportunities for staff from other teams and services to be visiting therapists at various stages of professional training.

Clinical
To provide highly specialist cognitive behavioural psychotherapy assessment and treatment for patients referred with Anxiety, Depression and PTSD.
To develop psychotherapeutic formulations of presenting problems or situations that integrate information from assessment within a coherent cognitive behavioural framework which draws upon a number of theoretical models and evidence.
To develop and implement plans for the formal cognitive-behavioural treatment and/or management of patients presenting with Anxiety and Depression based upon a collaborative formulation of the patient’s problems and employing evidence- based approaches.
To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, including psycho-education and group treatments, where appropriate, as well as refining psychotherapeutic formulations during the course of therapy to optimise therapeutic change
To collaboratively develop effective relapse prevention plans with patients, which draw upon their experiences in therapy.
To provide highly specialist psychotherapy advice within a CBT framework, guidance and contribute directly to the formulation of the patients’ problems and care plan.
To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual patients and to provide advice to other professions on the psychotherapeutic aspects of risk assessment and risk management in line with Trust and inter-agency policies and procedures.
To communicate, in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, to patients, their families and others as appropriate. This may include information that may be contentious or highly distressing concerning the nature of their problems, the CBT assessment, formulation of the difficulties and treatment plans.
To produce reports on patients, in a timely manner, that convey the key findings of CBT assessment and formulation and treatment outcome in a way that does justice to the complexity of the problems described, but that are understandable to the recipients of the reports, including patients and referrers. Supervision, Professional Development and Teaching
To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with BABCP.
To keep abreast of developments in cognitive behavioural psychotherapy assessment and treatment of mental health difficulties through self-directed reading, attendance at CPD events, and through own supervision; in line with the level required for ongoing registration.
To be responsible for supervision and teaching skills to trainee CBT therapists and other multidisciplinary staff, as required.
To provide advice, consultation and supervision to staff working within a CBT framework.
To contribute regularly to departmental CPD in cognitive behavioural models and treatment.
Governance
Contribute to the development, maintenance and dissemination of the highest standards of professional practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD, training and development programmes.
Initiate and participate in audit and service evaluation with colleagues within the service and the Trust to help develop and improve services to patients.
Work in accordance with the principles of CBT and within the parameters of good practice, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Clinical Governance Framework, and, where necessary, seek advice regarding these matters.
Maintain high standards of clinical and professional practice by undergoing continuous professional development in accordance with Trust policies and the requirements of accrediting organisation/BABCP.
Management.
To be responsible for the proper management and administration of personal caseload, in compliance with Trust policies and in consultation as necessary with service management.
Participate in the policy and priority setting procedures of the Service and in the formulation of its development plans.
Assist in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service including advising mental health professionals and managers on aspects of CBT
Working Relationships
Work with the Team Leader and other staff, with regard to key service issues, service aims and objectives, service developments, and other managerial issues to ensure the effective operation of the service.
Communicate clearly and effectively with psychotherapists within the service, other clinical staff in Step 4 and across the Trust, on matters relating to the clinical care of patients, to ensure high standards of treatment are maintained and that requirements of clinical governance are met
Liaise, as appropriate, and co-operate with administrative staff, with regard to the effective administration of the Service and its clinical work, and in order to ensure that Service procedures and processes are effectively adhered to
Legislation and Policy Guidance
Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant national and local NHS guidelines legislation and policy in respect of: Child Protection, Mental Health, Disability, Race Relations, Equal Opportunities, Freedom of Information and Human Rights, etc.
