An opportunity has become available for a general farm worker at The RVC Boltons Park Farm.
In this role we’re looking for an experienced TMR feeder operator to help the farm achieve its long-term goals as well as relief milking where needed.
The role would offer great variety but will be mainly focus on the dairy side with managing feed stocks and ensuring that accurate diets are fed to the different groups including ewes at lambing., helping manage the young stock and milking herd.
The successful candidate will have experience in a similar role, strong attention to detail, a proactive approach towards maintenance and an understanding of cow nutrition and the importance of the diet. The candidate may become involved in some areas of undergraduate teaching – both veterinary and animal science students – this will be largely based around animal husbandry.
The farm is currently ha made up of grass, maize and lucerne with the dairy herd consisting of 90 loose housed Holstein-Friesians with plans to expand to. The herd are milked twice a day with all milk sold on an Arla- contract and to our local vending machine. The herd are TMR-fed, with them being paddock grazed when possible. The herd are calved all year round. The farm also run a flock of sheep as well as having students coming to the farm for lessons and experience.
