Job Title: Animal Care Assistant
Join Bath College as an Animal Care Assistant. This role involves contributing to the high standards of animal welfare by carrying out animal husbandry duties tailored to the needs of the animals within our collection.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain accurate animal records and ensure high standards of animal health, hygiene, and welfare.
* Follow health and safety procedures in line with College Policy.
* Perform routine husbandry duties, including cleaning, feeding, and providing water to various domesticated and exotic animals.
* Ensure proper waste disposal to maintain a clean environment.
* Administer medication to animals as directed by the supervisor.
* Conduct health checks and keep accurate records.
* Monitor stock supplies and report needs to the animal house supervisor.
* Observe and report signs of unusual behavior or health issues.
* Record vet visits, breeding status, animal deaths, and repairs.
* Maintain enclosures and report repair needs.
* Communicate with external agencies such as vets when required.
* Make welfare decisions when necessary and communicate with the supervisor.
* Purchase and transport fresh food for animals.
Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications
* Level 2 or above in Animal Care with good or higher grades.
* Level 2 minimum in English and Maths.
* Knowledge of health and safety requirements specific to the Animal Care sector.
This position offers a contributory salary pension scheme, ongoing professional development, and various employee benefits. The job may vary in hours up to 20 per month, including weekends and weekdays, to meet business needs. The role is subject to a pro-rata salary and may be filled as soon as sufficient applications are received.
