The Haldon is an NHS Specialist Eating Disorder Unit based in Exeter, Devon. We provide an inpatient treatment programme to promote recovery from Eating Disorders in a caring and compassionate environment.
The ward is a 10-bedded unit for people requiring intensive treatment to address the physical aspects of an Eating Disorder alongside the psychological maintaining factors.
Your role as a Qualified Nurse on Haldon would include being part of the multi-disciplinary team. This would involve supporting the identification of goals and aims of treatment, working closely with the person as part of the core nursing team, and managing daily aspects of nursing care on a busy Eating Disorder Unit.
Main duties of the job
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients and families, taking into account any communication difficulties they may have, including neurodiversity.
* Form and maintain therapeutic relationships and act as a Named Nurse throughout a person's admission.
* Participate in Clinical Review Meetings as part of the core nursing team.
* Provide meal time support, including guidance and techniques during meals and post-meal support.
* Be trained in interventions such as NG feeding, which could be under the MHA legal framework.
* Assess and manage risk in conjunction with the MDT.
* Deliver therapeutic interventions, assisting/facilitating in the running of groups and individual 1-1 sessions, offering time for positive and active engagement.
* Participate in procedures involving intensive engagement and de-escalation techniques. The role will require the post holder to perform Physical Intervention Techniques, therefore they must declare physical fitness to undertake such a role.
* Nursing care skills including physical observations, blood sugar monitoring, and medication management.
* Recognise signs of abuse and know procedures to escalate concerns.
* Act in a professional capacity with awareness of professional boundaries.
* Organise and run a nursing shift.
* Oversee and support student nurses.
