Job Introduction
BBC Verify is seeking a broadcast senior producer with experience of open-source and data journalism to work in the Verify Production Hub.
BBC Verify brings together open-source intelligence (OSINT) specialists, disinformation reporters, fact checkers and data journalists to find impactful stories and to offer new lines and compelling coverage of the biggest issues across BBC News's website, social media, television and radio.
Transparency is an essential element in ensuring audiences feel they can trust the BBC's journalism and BBC Verify is at the heart of this as we find new ways to share more of the important, thoughtful work that goes into verifying, fact checking and sourcing our journalism.
The successful candidate will work alongside the wider team and our correspondents to identify editorial opportunities to tell exciting stories using innovative and impactful formats for our broadcast output.
Main Responsibilities
As Impact Producer you'll be based in London and will be responsible for researching, scripting and producing text, audio and video content under tight deadlines for our correspondents and reporters.
You will work collaboratively with the broadcast Production Hub and the wider BBC Verify team to pioneer new innovative approaches to produce data journalism and analysis; as well as originate and deliver multi-platform content including original story ideas and material with editorial ambition.
You will have a proven track record in delivering on-the-day multiplatform video journalism and a good understanding of the editorial ambitions of BBC Verify.
You should have first-class news judgement, excellent online and TV output production skills and ideas, and have a detailed understanding of how to tell complex stories in a clear and compelling way.
You'll also have experience of interacting with different outlets in order to maximise the reach and impact of the content you help produce.
You will ensure that the output meets BBC editorial policy standards and can sustain public, legal, political and media scrutiny and will work to support the BBC's objective to grow the value we deliver to all audiences across the UK and globally.
Are you the Right Candidate?
* A proven track record of producing on-the-day and impactful journalism for TV and Digital output, which includes coordinating the delivery of content by managing practical, editorial and technical demands.
* Extensive experience of forensic and data-driven journalism, with significant experience of using the latest techniques and technology in OSINT and UGC verification. This must include experience of producing this type of journalism for a range of platforms which includes digital, social, television and streaming.
* A track record of delivering original, high impact investigative journalism, with a particular emphasis on tailoring content for different outputs.
* Experience of producing content for television and online. This must include experience of researching, writing, editing and packaging video, commissioning graphics and working with correspondents who're reporting on breaking news and the world's top news stories.
* Must demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and operate under tight timescales, along with the ability to deal with daily and long-term editorial demands.
* Demonstrable knowledge of tools and techniques to create video output for television. A proven track record of using video tools which must include experience of FCP X.
