Deputy Ward Manager - AMU
The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) has a bed base of 49 beds. Much like other AMUs, we receive patients directly from the Emergency Department and SDEC, ensuring all emergency admission patients receive seamless, high-quality care at the point of admission.
We differ from other AMUs by offering a wide variety of services, including advanced care for critically ill patients, management of cardiac monitors, BiPaP, and chest drains, among others. We also have a dedicated Practice Development Nurse Team.
Acute medicine is busy and challenging, allowing us to see a huge variety of patients, exposing us to many different conditions, where no two days are the same.
It is essential to have an understanding of patient flow and its impact on the day-to-day running of the hospital and patient experience. You will ensure the delivery of high standards of care to service users while providing support, supervision, and education for all colleagues.
As an experienced Nurse, you will work clinically as a member of the Nursing Team, providing clinical advice, expertise, and leadership to all staff in partnership with the Ward Managers. You will be called upon to deputize in the Ward Manager’s absence to ensure a positive patient experience through the delivery of high standards of care at all times.
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
* The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
* Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate, and outpatient facility.
* Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services serving the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount), including temporary bank staff, and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services, and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000, including 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire, as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire, which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital. In 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient, and diagnostic), ranging from simple outpatient appointments to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year.
