Cygnet Hospital Maidstone is our state-of-the-art, 63 bed mental health facility for adults situated in the Kent Medical Campus in Maidstone. The hospital is purpose-built to meet the latest national specifications for improving mental health within a therapeutic environment, providing an important service for local patients from Kent.
The hospital is split into four distinct wards, each offering specialist mental health services:
1. Roseacre Ward - Highly Specialised Personality Disorder service for women
2. Kingswood Ward - High Support Inpatient Rehabilitation (Level 2) service for men
3. Bearsted Ward - Specialist PICU Service for Men
4. Saltwood Ward - Male low secure ward
Job Role
The role of the Assistant Psychologist will be to support and enhance the psychological care of clients within Maidstone by assisting the Qualified Psychologist in the delivery and evaluation of effective services that meet Cygnet's Healthcare objectives, national strategic and policy guidelines, commissioner requirements, and user and carer needs and expectations. This includes understanding, preventing, and ameliorating psychological distress and disorder, and improving the mental health and well-being of clients. Responsibilities include the administration, scoring, and report writing of psychometric assessments, standardised risk assessments, clinical formulation, and supervised individual and group interventions. Clinical supervision and additional training will be provided as part of personal and professional development, along with an excellent Assistant Psychologist Development Programme to support continuing professional development.
Candidate Profile:
You will be a strong team player, confident, motivated, and well-organised. A good understanding of therapeutic boundaries, clinical risk, and the importance of evidence-based interventions is essential. Patience and commitment are critical, but above all, you'll have a genuine desire to help others. We are looking for someone with a good degree in Psychology; further postgraduate training in a relevant area of applied psychology and mental health is desirable. Previous experience of working within mental health services is essential, and experience as an Assistant Psychologist delivering 1:1 therapeutic work and/or group therapy sessions is desirable. All candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and reference checks.
