We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) nanny to support a delightful 5½-year-old boy who is on the severe end of the autistic spectrum. The family lives in Buckingham MK18.
This role is ideal for someone patient, compassionate, and knowledgeable in working with children with severe learning disabilities and behavioural needs.
About the Child:
This young boy has a severe learning disability and displays behaviours such as head-banging and self-injurious actions, along with hitting. He is non-verbal and requires comprehensive support with daily tasks and needs. He currently attends a special school for 2.5 hours, 4 days a week due to these behavioural challenges. Despite these difficulties, he has a bright and loveable personality, especially when engaged in activities that make him happy. He enjoys:
* Trampolining and swimming
* Visits to parks and farms, particularly places like Hogshaw Farm and country parks with sand play
* Watching and listening to his favourite Disney films on his iPad
He is known for being extremely cheeky and loveable when well-regulated and is capable of adapting well to new people and environments when his needs are understood and met.
Role Requirements:
* Availability 3 days a week (Monday to Thursday) from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm (12 hours per week). The nanny can choose which 3 days.
* Experience working with children with severe autism and related behavioural needs
* Ability to engage in structured play and activities that promote well-being and development
* Skills in managing challenging behaviours using positive and appropriate strategies
* Willingness to assist with daily care tasks and ensure a safe, stimulating environment
* Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach
Responsibilities:
* Providing attentive and compassionate care tailored to the child’s unique needs
* Supporting and encouraging participation in preferred activities such as outdoor play and sensory experiences
* Helping manage and redirect challenging behaviours effectively and safely
* Ensuring a consistent and calming routine to support emotional regulation
Start Date: As soon as possible
Rate: £15 per hour +
