As Southern Waters Infrastructure Strategic Delivery Partner for Clean & Wastewater, we will be responsible for the Design & Build of major infrastructure projects. This extensive programme covers the entire Southern Water Services region including the Isle of Wight. The clean water infrastructure programme will require upgrading existing assets and installing new assets to reduce leakage and usage across the region. The wastewater programme will support Southern Water Services, in protecting & improving the environment for their communities and customers. Morrison Water Services is currently looking to recruit a Safety, Health, Environmental and Wellbeing (SHEW) Advisor for our Southern Water Frameworks based in Falmer.
As a Safety, Health, Environmental and Wellbeing (SHEW) Advisor, you will report to and support the SHEW Manager, ensuring the delivery of legislative compliance and promote continuous improvement of Safety, Health, Environmental and Wellbeing performance.
You will be a highly organised, efficient multitasking and flexible individual who is keen to be part of a vibrant team.
As a SHEQ Advisor:
- You will work collaboratively with other functions from early works and design through construction to commissioning ensuring projects meet health and safety requirements.
- You will support the design team to discharge their roles as principal designer and / or designer under CDM Regulations and assist in the early identification and mitigation of risk strategies.
- You will advise construction managers, team leaders and site operatives in the field of statutory health and safety requirements, whilst providing support in identifying solutions and options for continual improvement.
- You will review risk assessments and method statements, including those of sub-contractors and where necessary support the operational team in the identification, and implementation of suitable control measures.
- You will regularly inspect work locations monitoring direct employees and sub-contractors via site inspection and management audits, and submit these in a timely manner, ensuring safety critical activity controls (including temporary works) are identified and implemented safely.
- You will provide training, advice and guidance, encouraging continual improvement through proactive engagement with Operatives and Supervisors.
- You will conduct competency checks and undertake D&A testing (random & following incidents) and assist in the development and delivery of inductions, toolbox talks and & safety briefings.
- You will conduct investigations of incidents and accidents, identifying root cause analysis and recommendations to prevent re-occurrence.
- Report and investigate incidents in line with Client and MWS minimum requirements and submit reports within agreed timescales. You’ll also ensure actions from investigations are acted upon and close-out the report in a timely manner.
- You will assist in the identification of training needs for site based personnel and support wellbeing initiatives.
- You will have the opportunity to suggest, communicate and promote improvement initiatives, promoting innovation and different ways of working, together with monitoring compliance with both the Morrison Water Services management system and our clients requirements.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Safety Advisor in a construction environment (Utilities experience preferable)
- Hold relevant H&S qualification, as a minimum NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate with knowledge and experience of works conducted under CDM Regulations.
- Experience supporting Principal Designer and Principal Contractor responsibilities and duties as required by CDM regulations.
- Hold an appropriate Construction Skills Card, with Streetworks and utilities experience. An environmental qualification is desirable.
- Be a self motivated, and efficient individual with strong team work and negotiation skills, capable of delivering confident articulate presentations, able to work on own initiative, prioritise workloads and have a willingness to travel to meet deadlines.
- Consistently demonstrate high standards of safety behaviour, leading by example and promoting a positive safety culture
- Have effective communication skills whilst maintaining high levels of confidentiality and integrity.
- Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office - Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Must hold a valid UK driving Licence and be willing to obtain EUSR, National Water Hygiene and SHEA Water qualifications. (Training will be given)
Additional Information:
This is an area based role requiring regular travel throughout the client operational region, occasional overnight stays and office attendance as required to meet role.
Average 45 hours a week, Monday-Friday shifts between 7am and 5pm, times as required.
