DUTIES OF THE POST This role is suitable for applicants at ST6+ or Post CCT candidates with experience in paediatric hepatology. It is ideally suited to candidates wishing to work in a large teaching hospital which provides many specialist services and is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in paediatrics. The daytime role will be primarily based on the paediatric hepatology ward (L50). The post holder will be involved in the day to day management of inpatients and take part in outpatient clinics. There will be opportunities to further their training in practical procedures such as therapeutic endoscopy and liver biopsy. This will include gaining experience in management of patients with acute liver failure, and those undergoing liver transplantation. The weekly ward timetable includes close supervision by consultants and several opportunities for clinical teaching. The post-holder will have the opportunity to participate in medical audit and local/multi-centre research projects. LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY The post holder may participate in the middle grade on call rota equivalent to ST3+ (middle grade). When on-call you will be expected to carry the crash bleep and attend to calls. TEACHING AND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING The post holder should have at least 3 years post-graduate experience of general paediatrics/paediatric specialities. We have a very robust teaching programme that involves radiology meetings, grand rounds, junior doctor seminar, paediatric MDT, safeguarding peer review, and journal clubs on a weekly basis. We also have simulation programmes, governance meetings monthly. The successful candidate will be encouraged to attend these meetings. We also have year 4 medical student teaching sessions, when they are posted in Paediatrics. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive induction programme and will be assigned a supervisor to support them during their post. The ward and clinic service commitment will be shared between the Registrars and Clinical Fellow so that each will have flexible sessions for admin/private study/research.
