Main duties of the job
1. The post-holder will be responsible for carrying out radiotherapy processes as prescribed, carefully and accurately and assisting in the operational management of a specialist highly complex radiotherapy work base, which may be a treatment unit, a brachytherapy unit, a CT scanner, VS area or a treatment preparation area, and supervising the immediate radiographic team in the absence of a team leader.
2. The post-holder will liaise with medical, physics, nursing, clerical and support staff within the department and throughout the institution. The key working relationships will be with the Senior I radiographers.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
3. Responsible for the accurate preparation, planning and delivery of treatment by self and by members of the immediate team in the absence of the Senior I radiographer.
4. Meet the regulatory responsibilities defined for an operator as delegated by the Trust under the IR(ME)R regulations. With appropriate experience may be defined also as a practitioner for concomitant exposures as before.
5. Promote, maintain and develop the technical abilities of self and junior staff, ensuring all practice meets the highest legal, ethical and professional standards.
6. Participate in the clinical education and assessment, both formal and informal of a diverse mix of student radiographers at the work base, and assist in their day to day supervision.
7. In the absence of the work base leader, to take responsibility for the organisation of the radiotherapy work base and staff.
8. Be compliant with statutory and Trust requirements for record keeping within the department.
9. Observe and comply with the Trust's policies and procedures for Health and Safety ensuring the environment in which you and your team work is safe, clean and tidy.

Essential criteria
10. HCPC registration as a therapeutic radiographer (requires BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy or equivalent accredited programme)
11. Post registration experience of sophisticated RT equipment treating advanced techniques in a complex department, competent in IGRV, IMRT technologies

12. Previous experience of participating in clinical education of preregistration students

13. Be an effective communicator across the multi-disciplinary team using both written and spoken English; including being able to manage sensitive information and to deal with anxious and demanding individuals using diplomacy and persuasion.

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
