Job Role: Workshop Machinist
Location: Coventry + travel (UK and International)
Salary: Up to £55k OTE
This role requires extensive travel within the UK and internationally, and candidates must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to travel as needed.
Job Duties:
1. Set up and operate manual machining equipment, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, vertical borers and other workshop tools.
2. Must be confident programming, setting, and operating CNC machines.
3. Perform assigned on-site machining tasks with precision and efficiency.
4. Monitor and control job costs to adhere to planned levels.
5. Prepare necessary equipment for upcoming assignments.
6. Conduct surveys of potential work sites, gathering comprehensive technical, administrative, and commercial information for method proposals and quotations.
7. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to produce components to precise measurements.
8. Perform routine maintenance and inspection of machines to ensure operational efficiency.
9. Measure and verify dimensions of finished parts using precision instruments such as micrometres, calipers, and gauges.
10. Work with a variety of materials, including metals, plastics, and composites, as required.
11. Collaborate with engineers and team members to optimise machining processes and resolve technical issues.
12. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
13. Record production activities, including timesheets and job completion logs, ensuring accurate documentation.
Job Requirements:
1. Manual machining experience (essential)
2. CNC machining experience (desired)
3. NVQ or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering, Machining, or a related field
4. Proficiency in the operation of manual lathes, milling machines, and grinders, and CNC machinery
5. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
6. Strong knowledge of machining principles, cutting tools, and measurement techniques
7. Keen eye for detail and excellent problem-solving skills
8. Familiarity with safety standards and best practices in a workshop environment
9. Good communication and teamwork abilities
10. Experience in a heavy engineering environment
