If so, you could be a perfect fit for a new role with the Orkney Native Wildlife Project, preferably based on Orkney. The Orkney Native Wildlife Project (ONWP) aims to protect Orkney’s unique and globally important wildlife, and the benefits that it provides for local people from an invasive non-native predator: the stoat. Stoats pose a serious threat to the Orkney vole, a species found nowhere else in the world, and many birds including hen harriers, short-eared owls, red-throated divers, waders, and seabirds. This wildlife supports Orkney’s thriving tourism industry and represents a crucial haven for species which are threatened elsewhere in the UK. The project is a partnership between RSPB Scotland, NatureScot and Orkney Islands Council, and is generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and EU LIFE and NatureScot, and Nature Restoration Fund (NRF). What's the role about? We are looking to recruit a GIS Analyst for the Orkney Native Wildlife Project, supported by our Conservation Data Management Unit. The role will deliver detailed GIS analysis, spatial data management, and mobile data collection in order to judge and report progress on eradication of stoats as an invasive non-native species and to advise methodology changes. Using the suite of ESRI mapping products, you will analyse spatial data to answer vital conservation questions. This software will also be used to create and manage data collection apps, which will be used in the field by trapping, monitoring and dog handling staff. Your outputs will include visually engaging, informative maps and dashboards. GIS is a rapidly evolving field. You must have an interest in developing your skills, and staying current with key advances, such as new tools, techniques, and datasets. Essential skills, knowledge and experience: Knowledge of how to use mapping software, such as ArcGIS. Knowledge of GIS, spatial data management, and information management good practice. Experience using ESRI mapping products, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, Field Maps, and QuickCapture. The ability to become proficient with all aspects of GIS software, including scripting languages such as Python and SQL. The ability to provide a high level of customer care. Logical, methodical, patient, and friendly with excellent attention to detail. The ability to prioritise tasks during periods of both low and high demand. Desirable skills, knowledge and experience: Experience using coaching to help others develop their skills and/or knowledge.Experience delivering GIS training.Knowledge of Remote Sensing data and techniques.Experience of managing data to deliver non-native species eradications.
