JOB DESCRIPTION
Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am a lady in my sixties living in Penarth. I have physical disabilities including fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and Vestibular Migraines, which cause me to feel light-headed and dizzy. I also struggle to keep my balance and experience throbbing, painful headaches. I am awaiting a knee replacement and have some mental health issues that can affect my confidence when going out and meeting new people. I can walk but not long distances due to my conditions. I can use a manual wheelchair or walking aid, but only for a short period and am unable to perform many everyday tasks due to the restrictive movement in my joints. I do smoke but limit this to one room in the house. In my spare time, I enjoy looking around the charity shops in Penarth if I feel up to it, watching Law and Order and organized crime programs, comedy programs, or any documentary.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To support me with domestic tasks around the home as well as accompanying me and encouraging me to get out in the community.
HOURS OF WORK
There are 12 hours per week available. I require support most days. Currently, the days I am recruiting for are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Ideally, the hours will be worked between 09:00 am – 13:00 each day, but this can be discussed further at the interview.
RATES OF PAY
£12.80 including double pay on bank holidays.
TASKS CAN INCLUDE
1. Preparing and cooking meals.
2. Cleaning my home.
3. Other odd jobs around the house as required; i.e., changing bedding.
4. Helping me put on my socks and shoes if needed due to my knee problems.
5. Helping me to attend any appointments.
6. Weekly shopping.
7. Accompanying me to access social support.
8. Support to help maintain my garden, including light sweeping and tidying.
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
1. Somebody who will be reliable.
2. Someone who doesn’t mind me being a smoker.
3. Previous experience would be desirable.
4. Someone who will encourage me to go out and care about my welfare.
5. A car driver with access to their own vehicle is essential.
ABOUT THE JOB
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid on a monthly basis, and appropriate holiday pay will be given. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check, which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority). The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK.
