Role: Platform Engineering - Junior Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Birmingham - CV2 (SCC operate hybrid working, which comprises of a mix of office and home working)
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary Package: £34,000 - £38,000 plus large company benefits, a broad flexible benefits scheme, and 2 paid-for volunteering days a year
Hours: 9.00 am – 5.30 pm Monday – Friday

Role purpose:
The Junior Infrastructure Engineer is a key role within the Platform Engineering and Services function accountable for the Management and Maintenance of all Data centre services Infrastructure environments, management tooling and the Services delivered from them. This role is responsible for delivering best in practice Infrastructure Lifecycle management and evolution of Technologies and services delivered from Infrastructure platforms.
Security clearance or the willingness to apply will be required for this role.
Key responsibilities:
* Responsible for the provisioning and decommissioning of platform services is completed to a documented standard.
* Responsible for maintaining the platform correctly throughout its lifecycle, including all patching and upgrading activities.
* Responsible for ensuring Platform maintenance and management tasks are delivered and communicated in line with agreed policies.
* Responsible for delivering platform specific project tasks to an agreed specification.
* Ensure technical documentation is completed and updated to professional standards.
* Contribute to delivering technical excellence across the Platform Engineering Team.
* Identify, Contribute, and work towards the technical and service goals defined by DCS management.
* Identify, Contribute, and work towards cost reduction activities.
* Identify, Contribute, and work towards Service Improvement activities.
* To perform any other duties from time to time that may be required by Platform Manager.
Skills and experience:
* Good basic understanding of all infrastructure technologies, including Networking, Storage, OS, Hypervisors, backup and security.
* Experience working with vSphere or Hyper-V hypervisors.
* Experience of working with Veeam, Zerto, vCloud Director advantageous.
* Experience working in datacentres performing server hardware lifecycle management tasks, including racking, upgrading, cabling and troubleshooting.
* Awareness of project management and service management industry best practices (PRINCE2, ITIL v3).
* Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical problems and incidents.
* Good communications skills, both oral and written.
* Basic documentation skills across technical documentation.
* Understanding of time management skills.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
* Adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced environment.
* Great attitude and good work ethic.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
* Government and/or Police Security levels required to meet the operational requirements of the role (no caveats) and as per the requirements stipulated in relevant customer contracts.
