Senior Tax Analyst

As part of a vibrant EMEA Finance team, the Senior Tax Analyst will manage the development, implementation and maintenance of various accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
To be successful for the role you will have some VAT experience; some additional corporate tax experience would be nice to have but is not essential. In this role you will have the opportunity to work with and be mentored by experienced tax professionals.
The role:
As Senior Tax Analyst, you support the Direct (“CT”) and Indirect Tax (“VAT”) process for the EMEA region. Prepare and complete tax returns and reports, as well as other compliance requirements. Support the tax team when advising and partnering with the business on tax impact and consequences.
Responsibilities will include:
* Support the tax team who has overall responsibility for Taxes in the region both from a compliance and advisory perspective.
* Ensure periodic VAT, Intrastat, EC Sales compliance reporting and CT reporting, including ensuring the group fulfills its filing and payment obligations on all tax matters. This will be a mixture of in-house completion as well as working with outsourced providers.
* Drive process improvements, including automation of compliance and ensuring best use of existing or new technology solutions where possible and appropriate.
* Perform root cause analysis for any errors and then mitigate this cause. This may include designing or amending systems or processes and/or providing training to colleagues.
* Supporting with tax audits, correspondence, and notices from tax authorities.
* Reviewing changes in the legislation on tax matters to ensure the business correctly reports taxes.
* Understand the structure of the business in the region and work with the tax team to advise and educate commercial and support colleagues on tax matters.
* Contribute tax comments as part of any overall tax advice provided to stakeholders, e.g. in respect of taxes on system improvements/acquisitions & new entities.
* To work with a significant degree of autonomy, subject to briefing the Tax Manager on all significant tax issues as they arise.
* To manage risk by maintaining good working relationships with tax authorities and by keeping close links with the business to identify at an early stage any areas of concern.
* Advise and partner with relevant stakeholders on tax matters (e.g. accounting, GIS, commercial, supply chain, trade compliance, etc).
Preferred Requirements:
* Experience with SAP (or equivalent ERP system) preferred.
* Good experience of computation preparation; experience using software such as OneSource or Alphatax preferred.
* Excellent attention to detail required.
* Strong knowledge of current CT and VAT laws; must maintain current knowledge of all tax laws affecting the company.
* Must be capable of analysing large quantities of data, particularly in Spreadsheets.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required.
Preferred Education/Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or related field desired.
* Accounting or tax part or fully qualified desired.
* Demonstrable tax experience (preferably in a high growth environment and/or biotechnology or pharmaceuticals).
