The School is looking for a dynamic teacher with previous pastoral and/or academic management experience to play a key senior leadership role as Head of the Middle School/Deputy DSL.
In recent years, the school has achieved record GCSE results and developed a reputation for excellent pastoral care. You will build on their outstanding achievements by providing excellent senior leadership and day-to-day management of the middle school. This will involve monitoring academic progress, pastoral issues and the behaviour of pupils, helping to improve academic outcomes and raise levels of attainment.
In addition to this, you will also assume Deputy DSL responsibilities, safeguarding pupil welfare and taking a lead role in training colleagues. You will also be expected to deliver up to 18 periods of teaching each week, creating a challenging and stimulating classroom climate that will motivate and inspire pupils.
You will be an outstanding classroom practitioner, who possesses previous pastoral management experience or experience within a management role (e.g. as Head of Department, Head of Year or Head of House). You will demonstrate a track record of school improvement, evidencing your ability to raise standards to the highest level. Solid knowledge of the legislative/compliance framework for independent schools is essential, along with knowledge of and the ability to implement Keeping Children Safe in Education.
Working at the school
There is always a buzz at here. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school. With a weekly staff briefing, half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, all of them are engaged in a lively ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims and aspirations.
Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining them should expect to do the same and share their commitment to the highest standards. At the same time their ethos remains unpretentious, kindly and practical, and there’s a strong sense of community and friendship at the school.
The school aim to look after their staff well: they have an appraisal scheme with a focus on employees’ professional development; they sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; they offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and they're committed to supporting staff wellbeing. Financially, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.
The school reserves the right to interview and appoint candidates before the deadline.
