Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS FT
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic full-time, HCPC Registered Band 5 Orthoptist to our existing team of 11 Orthoptists, 3 Optometrists, 10 Ophthalmic Photographers and an Orthoptic Administrator to assist in the delivery of Orthoptic services to patients from South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire.
The post is primarily based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary but will include sessions within any of the Trusts three hospital Orthoptic departments (experience dependant). A current driving licence and car ownership would be advantageous but not essential.
Main duties of the job
Orthoptic assessment and diagnosis of patients covering a wide age range and a complexity of clinical conditions in addition to planning, implementing and monitoring individual treatment plans, both conservative and surgical, using evidence-based practice and advanced clinical reasoning.
In addition to core orthoptic clinics, the department also supports specialist paediatric, refraction, ocular motility and neuro-ophthalmology clinics. The post holder will also be required to undertake administrative duties consistent with the day to day functioning of an orthoptic clinic.

* Good Verbal and written communication skills at all levels
* Ability to sustain mental and physical effort to manage patients of all ages and degrees of illness
* Ability to deal with sensitive information, language difficulties and barriers in a professional and sympathetic manner

Qualifications/Training
* Degree/Diploma in Orthoptics
* Registration with Health Professions Council
* Evidence of professional post registration development
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience as an Orthoptist, or, if newly qualified proven clinical experience over a broad range of skills (preferably referenced by a clinical tutor)
* Computer Literacy
* Some experience in perimetry Humphrey & Goldmann fields and Visual screening
* Knowledge of routine clinical administration
* Experience of working singlehanded
