Your next opportunity as an Assistant Accountant is at our Perth Office is on a Permanent Full Time basis.
About you
1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance, with commensurate relevant industry experience
2. Studying towards CPA/CA.
3. At least 2 to 3 years previous experience in an accounting capacity preferable with excellent attention to detail, positive can-do attitude with ability to problem solving skills.
4. Requires understanding fundamentals and principles of accounting.
5. Experience in Account Payable and Account Receivables.
6. Experience in Balance Sheet reconciliations and month end journals.
7. Excellent teamwork abilities and provide high level support to others team members.
8. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Word and/or other accounting software.
9. Experience in asset capitalisation and maintenance of fixed asset register.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
11. Ability to complete tasks whilst maintaining confidentiality, great work ethics and professionalism.
12. Excellent time-management skills, proven track record in prioritising work to meet fast-paced business deadlines.
About the role
13. General Ledger reconciliations and processing of journals and maintenance of capital work in progress
14. Assist other accountants preparing monthend journals and any adhoc duties as directed.
15. Fixed Asset Register maintenance, including asset additions, transfers, and disposals.
16. Provide guidance to the business regarding the treatment of expenditure in accordance to Western Power’s policies and the Australian accounting standards
17. Assists with the continuous improvement initiatives for systems and processes to ensure alignment with Western Power’s accounting practices
18. Support month end accounting for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable including provision for bad debts and impairment
19. Assist in preparation of the whole of government report to the Department of Treasury
20. Preparation of the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and cheque payment runs, including foreign currency payments
21. Ensure agreed critical suppliers are paid on time
22. Responding to internal and external customers regarding payment enquiries
23. Providing analysis of statistical payment data
24. Actioning stop payments requests, issuing of replacements cheques, stale and cancelled cheques, returned mail and unclaimed monies as required.
25. Liaise with Corporate Finance re daily cash commitments and preparation of unpresented cheque reconciliations.
26. Process miscellaneous and supplier refund cheques, EOPS claims etc.
27. Scan unclaimed monies for payments due to Western Power and action accordingly.
28. Ensuring security of Western Power cheque stationery including ordering, recording and maintenance of cheque stationery levels
29. Contribute to the organisation’s record keeping obligations by ensuring all accounting files are up to date.
30. Assist with regular operations including documenting processes, report generation and audit enquiries.
