Role Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Level 2 Defence Safety Engineer with Air Domain experience. This role supports the Delivery Teams by providing specialist safety engineering expertise. The Defence Safety Engineer will be responsible for delivering safety management guidance, conducting independent assurance reviews, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.
Whilst our Head Office is based in Alton, Hampshire this role will be working on a hybrid basis in the Bristol area, with an on-site requirement of 2-3 days per week.
Responsibilities
1. Provide safety management, safety engineering guidance, and advice to accountable personnel.
2. Conduct safety assurance activities including first-party independent reviews.
3. Develop and review safety management system artefacts.
4. Facilitate and manage delivery teams' safety management systems.
5. Advise on safety-related challenges and propose specialist solutions.
6. Maintain and manage safety cases, hazard logs, and risk assessments.
7. Ensure compliance with safety legislation, regulations, and defence policies.
8. Support skills transfer and knowledge sharing within the team.
Requirements
1. Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) in safety management systems.
2. Practitioner-level experience in safety engineering and management.
3. In-depth knowledge of aviation safety management including:
* MAA Regulatory Publications
* Defence Air Safety Portal
* EASA and CAA Regulations
* GEAR, ASEMS, POSMS, and DSA Regulations
1. Strong experience in developing and delivering safety artefacts.
2. Proven ability to rationalise and evidence safety arguments.
3. Capability to work independently within delivery teams.
4. Knowledge of safety analysis techniques such as Fault and Event Tree Analysis (FTA / ETA) and BowTie assessment.
Experience in:
* Remote piloted and uncrewed air vehicles.
* Maritime platform safety management.
* Ship/Air Integration.
* OME and weapons integration.
* Land-based platform safety management.
