Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 3 peer support worker to Join the Skegness Community Mental Health team. The Peer Support Worker (PSW) will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to patients in order for them to regain control over their healthcare, to lead meaningful lives and to develop their own unique recovery process. Through sharing from their own experiences, peer support workers will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. The post holder will work under the supervision of Community Psychiatric Nurses/ Social Workers /Occupational Therapists, Recovery Practitioner and will be managed by the Recovery Practitioner. We are a friendly, supportive and proactive team with a culture of delivering a high quality of care. The team works collaboratively with a range of internal and external partners, GPs, Neighbourhood teams, Social workers and Integrated Placed based teams. The team provide therapeutic interventions for those individuals that experience severe and enduring mental illness. Offering nursing interventions in a wide variety of clinical, therapeutic and social forms with the aim of promoting health, wellbeing, self autonomy and independence. Main duties of the job The successful applicant will demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal. They will be required to model principles of hope, recovery and self-belief in all aspects of their work with individuals experiencing severe and enduring mental heath needs. Have the ability to share coping, self-help and self management techniques with patients, and their families and carers, in an appropriate and supportive manner. Support patient to meet treatment goals, promote enablement to access there own communities in which to promote their emotional and social development. To liaise with the Community Psychiatric Nurse / Social Worker / Occupational Therapist / Recovery Practitioner and carry out assigned duties as a member of the multi- disciplinary mental health team. Provide direct support of individuals experiencing mental health problems to access community groups and networks that enable service users and /or carers to participate in community activities.
