We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Ductwork Sheet Metal Workshop Manager to lead and oversee daily operations of our sheet metal fabrication workshop.
The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of HVAC ductwork fabrication and installation, excellent leadership capabilities, and a commitment to quality, safety, and productivity.
This is a full-time role based at our workshop in Braughing.
Start date will be early January 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
Workshop Management:
* Production Planning & Scheduling: Plan, organize, and oversee daily workshop activities, ensuring that all ductwork and sheet metal fabrication projects are completed on time and to specification.
* Workflow Efficiency: Manage resources, tools, and materials effectively to maintain smooth operations and maximize productivity.
* Continuous Improvement: Implement and refine best practices to improve workflow, reduce waste, and enhance production quality.
Team Leadership & Development:
* Supervision & Mentorship: Lead a team of sheet metal workers, fabricators, and welders, providing clear direction, guidance, and support to ensure high-performance standards.
* Training & Performance Management: Facilitate training programs and provide regular performance feedback to help team members improve their skills and productivity.
* Staffing & Resource Allocation: Monitor staffing levels to meet production demands, adjusting team assignments and resources as necessary.
Production Quality Control:
* Quality Monitoring: Ensure that all fabricated ductwork meets design specifications, industry standards, and quality expectations.
* Inspection & Problem Resolution: Conduct inspections throughout the fabrication process and address any issues related to defects, deviations, or quality concerns.
Safety and Compliance:
* Health & Safety Enforcement: Uphold workplace safety standards by enforcing safe work practices and ensuring the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with relevant regulations, including local building codes, industry standards, and OSHA guidelines.
Inventory and Resource Management:
* Inventory Control: Oversee the inventory of raw materials, tools, and workshop equipment, ensuring appropriate stock levels and timely reordering to avoid production delays.
* Procurement Coordination: Work closely with the procurement team to ensure the timely acquisition of materials and supplies.
* Maintenance & Equipment Care: Ensure that all workshop machinery and tools are properly maintained and serviced to maintain optimal performance.
Cost Management:
* Budget Monitoring: Manage and track production costs, including materials, labor, and overhead, ensuring the workshop operates within budgetary limits.
* Cost Optimization: Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiencies, driving profitability without compromising quality.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required Experience:
* At least 5 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication, specifically in HVAC ductwork, with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
Technical Expertise:
* Strong knowledge of HVAC ductwork systems and sheet metal fabrication techniques.
* Proficiency with fabrication machinery, including CNC plasma cutters, brake presses, shears, and welding equipment.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications.
Leadership and Organizational Skills:
* Proven experience in managing teams, with excellent leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
* Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Communication Skills:
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to liaise with internal teams and senior management.
Health & Safety Knowledge:
* In-depth knowledge of workplace safety standards, including OSHA regulations and industry best practices for safe work environments.
Technical Proficiency:
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and familiarity with production management or job tracking software is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Certification in sheet metal fabrication, HVAC ductwork, or welding.
* Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
* Forklift or crane operator certification is an advantage.
Working Conditions:
* Primarily based in the workshop, with occasional visits to job sites as needed.
* Exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures within the workshop environment.
* Physical demands include lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods.
