Academy@Worden is a successful and popular 11-16 stand-alone secondary academy. The academy has an excellent local reputation and has been oversubscribed for a number of years. In January 2020, Worden was again judged by OFSTED to be a 'Good' school.
Given the expansion of the school’s roll from September 2023 onwards, the governors are looking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher with the main responsibility for Educational Needs and vulnerable pupils.
The Assistant Headteacher for Educational Needs will:
* Determine the strategic development of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy and provision in the School
* Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEND policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual students with SEND
* Be the School's SENDCO
* Be responsible for the provision and support of our most vulnerable pupils
* Be responsible for exam testing and Access Arrangements
* Be responsible for leading on the engagement and mapping of provision of extra curricular activities of our vulnerable pupils
* Be responsible for the transition of SEND and vulnerable pupils
* Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff across the School, parents and other agencies
* Line manage the Teaching Assistants
* Be trained as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
The Assistant Headteacher Educational Needs and Vulnerable Pupils will also be expected to teach and fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and the Teachers’ Standards.
Personal Qualities
* Qualified teacher status as required under the SEND Code of Practice
* National Award for SEN Co-ordination, or a willingness to complete it within 3 years of appointment as required under the SEND Code of Practice
* Certificate in Psychometric training, Assessment or Access Arrangements or a willingness to complete this in the first year of appointment
* Experience of working at a whole-school level
* Commitment to equal opportunities and inclusion
* Is independent, persistent and decisive and shows initiative
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
* Commitment to equal opportunities and securing good outcomes for students with SEND
