Financial Controller Some finance roles are about keeping things ticking over. This one is about shaping the future of a 5,000-acre country estate. This is a diverse, forward-thinking family-owned estate with a mix of residential and commercial properties, farmland, forestry, holiday lets, and fishing beats along the River Usk. There are also further development and diversification opportunities ahead. We need a Financial Controller who can balance the books and business partner with the Resident Agent. You'll be hands-on-there's a small finance team to lead, but no ivory towers here - this isn't a job for someone who only wants to review spreadsheets from a distance. You'll be deep in the numbers, helping to shape commercial decisions and improve financial systems. What You'll Be Doing: Taking full ownership of the finance function-forecasting, controls, reporting, and compliance. Producing reports that actually help decision-making, not just tick compliance boxes. Partnering with the Resident Agent to identify and evaluate commercial opportunities. Delivering payroll, VAT, and statutory accounts (yes, the less exciting but essential stuff). Improving financial systems and processes-there's plenty of scope for modernisation. Engaging with trustees, external advisors, tenants, and suppliers. What You'll Need: A professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or similar). Experience leading a finance function or being the right-hand person to someone who does. Commercial acumen-you're not just here to record numbers but to help grow the estate. A knack for making financial data useful, clear, and actionable. Confidence with accounting systems (Landmark experience is a bonus). Experience in property, estates, or agriculture is relevant and valued, but not essential if you're commercially sharp and can pick things up quickly. What's On Offer: Salary commensurate with a 'hands-on' No.1 Finance lead role, c. £60,000 - £75,000 expected. As a result of modernising the finance function, the flexibility to work from home 1 or 2 days per week can be offered. The Estate Office is based in a beautiful rural setting with ample parking; you'll be working with an Estate team who are warm, friendly and passionate about their work. So don't hide behind spreadsheets, come and help shape the future of a historic estate. Sound like your kind of challenge? Apply now.
