Dexter Construction, a division of the Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford, Nova Scotia is a large diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking an Environmental Engineering Co-op Student to work with our Aggregates Division for the summer term from May – August 2025. This position is based out of our Bedford, NS office.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist with the management of Pit & Quarry Approvals (compliance, monitoring, and reporting)
* Complete environmental inspections at aggregate sites around Nova Scotia
* Assist with various Environmental regulatory applications and initiatives
* Monitor & track various environmental monitoring data and performance indicators
* Work with various operational groups on environmental matters
* Participate in various environmental initiatives (wetland alteration, culvert installation, etc.)
* Assist with surface water management, water monitoring and reporting
* Use available technology (surveying, drones, etc.) to collect field data to assist with the management of aggregate sites
* Assist with the development of environmentally responsible mining plans and rehabilitation plans
* Work with the Aggregates Team in the identification of Environmental Best Practices
* Assist in the development of Environmental key performance indicators
* Any other duties as required
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
* Working towards Post-secondary education in Engineering
* Previous experience in a similar role would be an asset
* High attention to detail
* Utilizes strong organizational and planning skills
* Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
* Experience with GIS would be an asset
* A valid Class 5 Driver’s License
This position includes the use of a company laptop and cellphone allowance for the duration of the co-op term. A company vehicle and fuel card are also provided with the role to be used solely for work purposes.
