Job overview
The Anaesthetic department and the Intensive care Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital are active in audits and research and there will be plenty of opportunity to participate in Quality improvement projects and Research. Regular formal teaching sessions and journal club also form part of the learning available.
Main duties of the job
The duties of the post meet the requirements of the CT3 Equivalent (Stage 1 ‘top up’) posts as detailed by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. The 2021 RCOA Anaesthetics curriculum will be followed.
It will include pre, per and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of the patients on the ICU, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls and acute pain queries. Travel to other sites within the Trust will have to be anticipated to allow for full teaching experience.
Other responsibilities include:
1. Communication: This will include responsibility for and arrangement of communication and liaison with all other medical professionals.
Anaesthetic Specialty Trainees (CT3/ ST3 and above) cover CEPOD, labour ward and obstetric emergencies, and support ICU, paediatric and trauma emergencies with rotation procedures, both on elective lists and as emergencies.

Person specification
Qualifications and training
* Full GMC registration
* Have completed at least two years postgraduate training at CT1 and CT2 level in a relevant training programme, Completion of Initial Assessment of competence (IAC) and Initial Assessment of Competence for Obstetric Anaesthesia (IACOA)
Skills and experience
* Possesses range of clinical knowledge, skills and information technology expertise.
* Enthusiastic to maintain and develop knowledge.
* Displays sound professional judgement, sees patients within a holistic context.
* Primary FRCA or equivalent overseas degree.
* ALS Provider course.
Other requirements
* Most roles require an on-call commitment and travel across sites. Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to travel effectively between sites.
