Assistant Contract Manager
Salary – £34,520 - £43,151 per annum
Hours – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Location – Hereford, HR2 8BH
As an Assistant Contract Manager at FCC Environment, you will support the day-to-day running of our Hereford contract, ensuring health, safety, environmental compliance, and service delivery standards are met. You’ll assist in managing operations, plant, vehicles, and staff to ensure contractual, budgetary, and customer satisfaction targets are achieved efficiently and safely.
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week.

What will you be doing?
- Supporting the Contract Manager in the safe and compliant operation of the Hereford site, ensuring day-to-day activities run smoothly
- Monitoring and promoting health, safety, environmental, and quality (SHEQ) standards across the contract, including site audits and risk assessments
- Managing and supporting a team of operational staff and vehicle operatives, including recruitment, training, performance reviews, and discipline
- Ensuring plant, vehicles, and equipment are properly maintained and available for use, while working to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency
- Liaising with customers and stakeholders to ensure expectations are met and any issues are resolved quickly and professionally
- Assisting with the preparation of budgets and forecasts, and actively monitoring costs to maintain profitability
- Leading by example in promoting best practices in recycling, customer service, site cleanliness, and operational excellence
- Identifying and implementing improvements to processes and service delivery in line with contract KPIs and company goals
What are we looking for?
We are seeking someone who:
- Has experience managing teams in a production or operational environment
- Is confident in working with budgets and operational targets
- Demonstrates excellent communication and leadership skills
- Understands regulatory compliance and SHEQ principles
- Ideally holds a Transport Manager CPC qualification
- Is IT literate, commercially astute, and thrives in a dynamic team setting
- Has the ambition and capability to develop into more senior roles over time
