Development Underwriter - Property Owners Location: Croydon - Hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days WFH) Role Overview: As a Development Underwriter specializing in Property Owners, you will play a key role in driving the New Business proposition by providing quotations that align with the underwriting strategy. You’ll work within set KPIs, team and individual targets, and ensure compliance with underwriting authority and business standards. A significant focus will be on building strong relationships with brokers and developing a robust new business pipeline. Key Responsibilities: Provide New Business quotations to Broker Partners, adhering to personal authority limits. Ensure accurate and compliant underwriting, following process guides and risk exposure systems to support profitable growth. Maintain regular communication with Broker Partners to secure instructions and achieve targets. Manage and track insurer surveys, ensuring completion within deadlines, and address any risk improvements. Handle administrative tasks related to policy processing and documentation. Serve as a technical referral point and mentor for team members. Assist in training team members as required. Support individual and business audits to achieve successful scores and maintain QA review processes. Contribute to the team’s overall monthly KPIs and income targets. Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and provide high-quality service. Stay updated with technical, product, and regulatory knowledge in line with competency requirements. Underwrite business according to strategy and delegated authority levels. Attend relevant business functions as needed. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including Fair Presentation of Risk, GDPR, and Consumer Duty. Required Experience & Knowledge: Minimum 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C), including English and Maths. Experience in a regulated FCA environment (desirable). Previous experience in new business, sales, or development underwriting. Proven track record in achieving new business targets. Solid knowledge of Property products and wordings, with strong technical underwriting expertise. Ability to build and maintain effective broker relationships and demonstrate a working knowledge of the market. Proven understanding of underwriting guidelines across transactions such as renewals, endorsements, and cancellations. Ability to work under pressure, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability. Strong computer literacy, with the ability to use systems to produce accurate MI. Positive team player with a collaborative and adaptable approach. Minimum CII qualification, with progression toward Diploma or ACII. 5 years of experience in Property Owners underwriting. Additional Requirements: Adhere to internal policies for conflict of interest management and the fair treatment of customers. Maintain quality underwriting records and ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
