Job overview
As an LED, you will have appropriate clinical responsibility for the care of patients delegated by the consultant to his/her charge. Co-responsibility for the proper functioning of the department, including supervision of more junior medical staff. Working within the multidisciplinary team. Co-ordinating appropriate medical, surgical, and allied disciplines concerned with patient care and communicating appropriately with general practitioners and community agencies.
Main duties of the job
1. To support the delivery of safe, evidence-based Obstetric care in partnership with our midwifery colleagues.
2. To undertake regular review of complex patients and to assist in the management of their care.
3. To support the provision of high-quality gynaecological care in both emergent and planned care settings and to support the development of these services as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be expected to abide by the code set out in the GMC “Good Medical Practice” and to continue to improve on the generic competencies outlined in the Foundation Programme.
Other responsibilities include:
1. Taking a complete medical history in a holistic way, with a focus on the patient’s agenda.
2. Performing a complete systems examination while maintaining the dignity of the patient.
3. Requesting and interpreting appropriate investigations including radiological tests, biochemistry and haematology tests, and basic microbiological tests.
4. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team in patient management, with a focus on effective communication.
5. Learning to prioritise tasks to enable safe and high-quality patient care.
6. Supervising, training, and assisting junior clinical staff when required.
7. Participating in ward rounds and multi-disciplinary rounds as timetabled.
8. Referring on to specialty inpatient teams by telephone or electronic referral system.
9. Attending weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
10. Supervising medical students.
11. Complying with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave.
Person specification
Qualifications & Experience
* Has achieved MBChB or equivalent medical qualification. Satisfactory completion of F1 training/post or equivalent. Registration with the GMC at time of starting the post.
* 12 Months continuous experience within the NHS. Experience of Foundation training.
Knowledge
* Competence in basic clinical procedures. Able to prioritise clinical need, time, and workload. Aware of own limitations. Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection. Understand the importance of working effectively in teams.
* Knowledge of UK health systems, practices, and values; awareness of current issues in the NHS. Computer-literate. Understands the importance and impact of information systems in health care. Ability to practise evidence-based medicine. Evidence of continuous professional development.
