As a Mechanical Technician you will be part of a multi-disciplined diagnostic team responding to breakdowns & completing planned maintenance working 12hr days. You will support the departments Shift Management team (Production and Engineering) to ensure Safety, Quality and Production Plans are all met. The team may be requested to assist across-site as required to support the business objectives. Individuals will be expected to work in all departments and gain a working knowledge of them, using the experience of the local team.

The Role & Responsibilities of the Mechanical Technician
Report to the Team Leader Engineering on all matters regarding the maintenance and operation of all plant and equipment.
Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance activities on all aspects of plant and equipment on site.
Self-organise and prioritise work requirements and manage these accordingly and as directed by the team leader, section engineer or shift manager.
Assist in developing maintenance practices and procedures to improve and maintain the plant and equipment.
Pick up work, book out spares and keep records of work carried out via CMMS and update team on issues.
Ensure all legalisation relating to all systems is met and records keep.
Advise the team leader or section engineer of any spares used or required.
Ensure that all team members adhere to the agreed procedures and systems of workingat all times and report any changes that prevent you working to these standards. Have involvement in creating RA SWP & JTDs.
Complete point of work risk assessments.
Provide continuity of cover on site in the event of sickness & holiday.
Ensure all equipment is maintained to the required standard liaising with all members of the engineering department as required.
Reduce/eliminate all forms of waste from the department operations.
Give general assistance wherever requested in all aspects of the company.
Deputise for Team Leader
Supervise/organise multi-skilled workforce
o Issue permits etc
Undertake on the job training
Undertake training to learn new skills and use any training given
Involvement in plant improvement projects
Required of the Mechanical Technician
A recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship (Preferably HNC but minimum ONC level or equivalent).
Sound plant engineering knowledge and experience of industrial systems such as:
Hydraulic systems
Pumps, drives and gearboxes
Heavy machinery
Water cooling systems
Conveyor systems
Dust extraction systems
Self-starting driven individual capable of leading a small team
Ability to work with cross functional groups
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to methodically fault find any issues to root cause and front-line rectification.
Experience of working under permit systems previously or has knowledge of how permit systems operate
A customer focussed attitude with an understanding of prioritisation with current resources
