Job summary The postholder will Act as Deputy to the Head of Cellular Pathology and be accountable for operational activity within the specialty, which will include the business continuity processes and planning, and day-day management of the Lead BMSs and administrative teams providing strong leadership, management and communicating the strategic direction to the Pathology operational teams over all sites. With the Head of Cellular Pathology and Head of Mortuary, have accountability for the successful implementation and ongoing delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective and safe service within UHSussex Pathology. Manage operational changes, ensuring a safe transition from individual Trust pathology services to the new integrated service and developing and fostering a new culture in line with the overarching objectives of the Sussex Pathology Network and its business case for change. Main duties of the job To providestrong leadership working with team leaders and all staff within the Specialty across sites.Accountable for the management of the day-to-day operational services, demonstrating cost efficiency and reporting productivity, quality and safe systems. To ensure daily and other maintenance and checks are carried out according to the Standard Operating procedures (SOPs). To ensure high standards of laboratory safety are maintained at all times. Manage the investigation of clinical incidents and complaints regarding all specialities within the service including within Mortuary as appropriate.To lead on robust business continuity plans and mechanisms for immediate resolution of issues which then ensure risk(s) are minimised. With the Head of Service be accountable for the management of the sub-specialty finances within agreed budget, financial frameworks and Standing Financial Instructions; working closely with the Finance Manager to ensure budget management is clear transparent and aligned to agreed income forecasts and budgets. To report variances and issues which affect performance and develop and prioritise plans to mitigate any shortfall.Work with the Pathology leadership team to define, shape and lead the organisational culture to ensure continuous improvement and customer/patient focus. Co-ordinate the Cellular Pathology contribution to the Trust's Research and Development Agenda (as required).
