The role supports the Head of QMS and Validation in developing, implementing, and managing the Pharmaceutical Quality System in line with current Good Manufacturing Practice. The post holder will collaborate with team members, supervise Quality Technicians, and act as Duty Quality Assessor. Support within the laboratory, including participating in the Duty Manager rota, may be required.
Main duties of the job
* Chair the Laboratory Quality Meeting and report on quality and operational KPIs in the absence of the Quality Manager.
* Deliver specialist training in quality management and GMP to laboratory staff and clients.
* Act as deputy for the Quality Manager when needed, providing advice on the pharmaceutical quality system.
* Represent the laboratory at MHRA audits and chair quality meetings as required.
* Supervise Quality Technicians, including performance appraisals and one-to-ones.
* Assist with internal audits to ensure compliance with GMP and quality standards, producing audit reports.
* Assess and improve the pharmaceutical quality system in collaboration with the Quality Department.
* Investigate deviations, develop procedures, and implement quality management principles.

* Report directly to the Head of QMS & Validation on quality management issues.
* Communicate with QC staff and clients about quality management principles.
* Lead and participate in external audits of suppliers to ensure quality standards.
* Lead or participate in laboratory audits by external bodies like MHRA and customers, and implement cost-effective quality processes.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
* Qualification related to Quality Management.
Experience
* Experience in a GMP-inspected laboratory, understanding cGMP and pharmaceutical quality management.
* Experience in root cause analysis.
* Knowledge of pharmaceutical QC processes.
Skills and Approach
* Effective communication with conflicting priorities.
* Ability to train and influence others.
