The private sector housing team are responsible for working with landlords, agents, and tenants with improving safety standards and property management in the borough’s large private rented sector. This is a great opportunity for a well-organised, reliable, empathetic, and hard-working person to join the team as a Housing Enforcement Assistant. This role is office-based, with the officer regularly in contact with the public and supporting other officers in the team.
Key Accountabilities
* To liaise with and provide prompt efficient support for officers, particularly in ensuring that necessary documentation and information is available to them to meet their deadlines when leaving the office.
* To input and allocate service requests using the Uniform computer system.
* To process statutory and informal notices created by officers by making up notice packages, including relevant inserts.
* To operate clerical and administrative procedures effectively and efficiently with minimum supervision, including keeping simple financial records, filing, scanning, photocopying, collating, preparing documents for dispatch, etc.
* To provide statements of witness when required.
* To carry out telephone and email inbox answering duties and operate answering machines.
* A good commitment to a professional career or public service.
* To have a working knowledge of legislation relating to planning, housing, public health, and environmental issues.
* Appreciation of the operation of and pressures on local government.
* Able to communicate in writing and verbally according to the needs of the audience.
* Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and manage time efficiently.
* Self-motivated and with an ability to work with little supervision and take responsibility for own actions.
* Good numerical and literacy skills.
* Ability to recognise and sensitively respond to customers and colleagues’ problems whilst maintaining confidentiality.
* Willingness and ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
* Ability to obtain and understand information and communicate this in a clear, concise, and structured way.
* Has a positive and enthusiastic attitude under pressure whilst demonstrating perseverance in overcoming obstacles.
