The primary responsibilities of this Postdoctoral Research Associate will include conducting scientific research, analyzing results, and reporting on findings associated with the recently awarded US Space Force Space Strategic Technology Institute (SSTI) being led by RIT. Duties include grant-specific scientific research, analyzing results, developing reports based on findings, and the development of technical reports for sponsors, as well as publications and presentations. Duties will also include training students on equipment and discussing technical findings of their research.
Job Responsibilities
* Perovskite solar cell stack fabrication and characterization. This includes synthesizing novel perovskite chemistries (hybrid, all-inorganic) employing additives and passivating agents, converting them into high-quality thin films using spin coating and slot-die coating, developing the various charge transport layers (for both PIN and NIP architectures), electrode deposition including sputtered ITO and atomic layer deposited oxides, and advancing ultralight barrier layers including Silicon oxide. Will also be responsible for managing shipping to various SSTI collaborators.
* Develop testing procedures and equipment for stress testing of perovskite solar cells. This will include developing photoluminescence and deep-level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) experiments and studying the response of perovskite devices under stressors such as atomic oxygen, vacuum, AM0 light illumination, alpha particle, and proton irradiation. Radiation testing of perovskite films and devices including planning and scheduling with external radiation facilities at e.g. SUNY Albany and University of North Texas.
* Assist SSTI faculty with the training of various PhD students on development and characterization of perovskite materials and solar cells.
* Interface with other SSTI faculty and outside institutions. This will include helping to develop plans and potential collaborative activities related to fabrication and device characterization.
* Attend and give technical presentations at national technical conferences such as PVSC, MRS, and SPIE Photonics West. Disseminate ASTROMAT research findings in top-quality peer-reviewed science journals.
Required Qualifications
* PhD in Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience with high-efficiency solar cell device fabrication (Si, perovskite, III-V, etc.), electronic device characterization and a strong publication record.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in fabricating perovskite, Si or III-V solar cells as well as knowledge of material and electrical characterization methods.
* Excellence in developing top-quality figures/plots is required and can involve usage of Adobe Illustrator, Blender, etc.
* Understanding of radiation effects in solar cells and the role of radiation-induced defects in optoelectronic semiconductors.
* Prior experience with various perovskite compositions and different device architectures (NIPs and PINs). Knowledge of barrier layers for perovskite devices.
* Prior experience with scalable methods of perovskite fabrication, including slot-die coating and roll-to-roll coating.
* Experience in Python for device modeling, data analysis, and automation.
