Specialty Doctor in General Adult Community Psychiatry (Colne House) (NHS Medical & Dental: Specialty Doctor) - General Adult Psychiatry - Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust – Watford, Hertfordshire
We are looking for a Specialty Doctor in General Adult Community Psychiatry.
Adult Community Mental Health Teams in South West Hertfordshire operate from 2 clinical bases out of Colne House in Watford (covering Watford and Three Rivers) and the Civic Offices in Borehamwood (covering Hertsmere). Both provide a range of community based services, including outpatient clinics based on recovery care pathways. The post holder will be attached to Watford Adult Community Mental Health Service (ACMHS). The medical team is formed by 2 fulltime consultant psychiatrists, 2 part-time consultants and 2 other specialty doctors. HPFT Community service users from this area are allocated to a consultant depending on their registered GP Practice.
2 years experience within psychiatry is an essential criteria for specialty doctor posts; should you not hold this experience you may be interviewed and considered for an alternative posting which will differ in grade and pay.
Please note - we run a collated interview approach for all SAS vacancies we have across the Trust. This means that you will be considered for the posting you applied for in the first instance. If this posting is filled but you are deemed appointable, you may be offered an alternative posting which may differ in department and location.
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of people of working age from his/her catchment area who are referred or otherwise present to secondary care mental health services.
Initial triage by the Single Point of Access (SPA) determines whether the service user meets the criteria for a secondary care assessment. Service users with psychotic or non-psychotic mental health disorders (severe, complex, high risk or with issues of diagnostic uncertainty) and vulnerable adults are referred to face-to-face assessments at the Initial Assessment clinics.
Service users are usually offered an Initial Assessment followed by an MDT discussion of care plans. This allows a holistic assessment of the patient from more than one perspective. In certain circumstances, a single assessment will be offered with a doctor. Following assessment, service users will be allocated to the Adult Community Mental Health Service if they satisfy the criteria for a secondary care intervention in terms of severity, risk, complexity, treatment resistance or vulnerability. Otherwise, they will be signposted appropriately or referred elsewhere.
