A Social Work Assistant is required to join Newport City Council's First Contact team within their adults services department commencing ASAP for an initial 2-3 month contract. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate who can commit to full time, 37 hours per week. This position will largely be based on site at the Civic Centre, with some flexibility. A car driver is ideal but not essential.
Main focus on this role is to work on the adult duty desk, making contact to referrals, completing proportionate assessments over the phone, and signposting to preventative services. The team works closely with Health, safeguarding, and police.
Tasks and responsibilities will include:
* To manage and respond to enquiries into adult services.
* To provide people with information and advice in relation to care and support and assistance in accessing care and support.
* To respond to enquiries in an informative and knowledgeable way to enable people to better help themselves and others.
* To explore options with individuals for meeting their care and support needs and to empower the individual to access early intervention and preventative services.
* To undertake proportionate assessments of care and support needs when offering advice and assistance.
* To inform senior colleagues of any concerns which arise in relation to the safety of vulnerable adults.
* To work in partnership with individuals, carers, service providers, voluntary sector, and other professionals.
To be considered for this role you will need to be educated to ‘A’ Level standard or possess an equivalent Social Care Qualification. It is important that you hold an understanding of or capacity to gain an understanding of the principles of social work practice and underpinning legislation. You will need to be familiar with the services provided by the Service Sector and to be able to demonstrate experience of working with Adults in a social care setting or undertaking voluntary work with adults. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of vulnerable adults.

* Sound knowledge of adult safeguarding.
* Enhanced DBS, registered on the update service.
* 3 Years of referencing.
