Job Title: Design Technology / Food Technology / Art Technician

Salary and hours:
20 - 37 hours per week, negotiable full time & part time considered. Term time only + 5 inset days. Monday to Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Friday: 8.00 a.m. – 3.30 p.m. with ½ hour unpaid lunch break. Maximum of 2 evenings per year for 3 hours each to support at Open Evenings where required. Salary is based on NJC Pay Grade 4, points 3-4) full time salary £22,737- £23,114 FTE, prorata depending on hours agreed.

Main Job Purpose:
To provide high quality technical and administrative support within the Food, Design Technology and Art Faculty.
Main Duties:
* Ensure and promote a healthy and safe working environment for staff and students.
* Organise equipment and resources in classrooms in line with health & safety requirements.
* Support individual students during practical lessons.
* Support lessons when required.
* Ensure routine and non-routine checking and cleaning of equipment/machinery are carried out to the required standard.
* Respond effectively to requests from staff as required.
* Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement within the department.
Tasks will include:
* Liaise with and provide advice and support to teaching staff in lesson preparation and delivery.
* Prepare resources and assemble equipment daily.
* Deliver practical equipment and material resources to designated areas in time for lessons.
* Replenish and maintain equipment and essential resources in work areas.
* Obtain food and/or equipment by local purchase.
* Give technical advice to teachers, technicians, and students.
* Carry out risk assessments for technician activities daily.
* Assist in practical classes and demonstrations.
* Ensure all equipment and materials are prepared for demonstration purposes.
* Stay updated with Health & Safety requirements and developments in practical Technology.
* Recommend changes to policies and procedures to the Head of Faculty.
* Organise, store, and check the conditions of materials, food & equipment.
* Ensure safe treatment and disposal of used materials.
* Attend team meetings and contribute to decision-making processes.
* Assist with stock contracts, compiling orders, and maintaining records.
* Monitor and control financial records of team expenditure.
* Collect, check, and return equipment to stores.
* Ensure practical equipment is stored in a clean and safe environment.
* Carry out general cleaning and immediate repair of equipment.
* Provide advice on the use, purchase, and replacement of resources.
* Support the creation and maintenance of displays as directed by the Head of Faculty.
* Support the Principal in maintaining good discipline and behavior throughout the Academy.
* Support the work of the department.
