Introduction:
A Personal Assistant is required to support a gentleman in his early fifties with socialisation and rehabilitation following a recent stroke. The stroke has led to mobility and severe communication challenges. The role will involve accompanying and supporting the employer in day-to-day activities, inside and outside of the home.
This may include outdoor and cultural activities, such as accompanying the employer to cafes, local shops, museums and the library. It might also include transporting their children to and from school or other activities such as supporting attendance of exercise classes, appointments and taking part in hobbies. On occasion the role could also involve supporting the employer with their own employment duties.
The hours may vary depending on the needs of the service user and are to be worked flexibly as required and agreed in advance. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme and is intended to enable the individual to manage their support independently. Training can be provided as required and where available.
Ideally, you would have your own transport and a full driving licence as you will be required to transport them to and from venues.
The ability to communicate confidently through the medium of Welsh is essential as this is the employer’s preferred language and the majority of their social interactions are through the use of the Welsh language.
Main Duties:
● Supporting with mobility and communication, enabling interactions socially within the community and attend regular social gatherings.
● Support attending therapy and other appointments.
● Support and assist with activities such as shopping and errands, going for food, visiting attractions, exercise and other similar social activities.
● Support and encourage the employer to try new activities and skills to improve community socialisation and further recovery.
● Ensure his safety at all times during your working period.
● Provide companionship at home and stimulation through conversation, shared interests and activities.
● Local knowledge of activities and events available would be advantageous.
● Supporting parenting of primary-age children.
● To carry out any other reasonable requests that the employer may make from time to time.

Wages will be paid in arrears on a 4 weekly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement.
You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences.
You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
