Role Overview
The Head Mechanic will be a key figure in launching Penicuik Garage, contributing to the setup of operations, recruitment of staff, and defining the garage's culture and standards. In addition to hands-on mechanical work, you will be a trusted advisor, helping to establish the business, set processes, and ensure our workshop runs efficiently. You must also hold the necessary qualifications to conduct MOT tests.
Key Responsibilities
* Business Setup: Provide advice and expertise to help establish the garage, including equipment selection, workflow processes, and operational procedures.
* Recruitment: Assist in hiring and training additional team members to build a skilled and cohesive team.
* Culture Setting: Lead by example to create a positive, professional, and customer-focused workplace culture.
* Mechanical Operations: Diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle issues, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
* MOT Testing: Conduct MOT tests in line with DVSA requirements and maintain compliance with regulations.
* Maintenance and Quality: Ensure all work is completed to the highest standard, adhering to safety and industry regulations.
* Customer Interaction: Liaise with customers to explain repairs, provide quotes, and offer professional advice.
* Workshop Management: Organize jobs, maintain equipment, and ensure the workshop is safe and efficient.
* Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry practices, tools, and technologies to ensure the garage remains competitive.
Required Skills and Experience
* Proven experience as a mechanic, with a track record of leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
* Strong understanding of automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques.
* MOT Tester Qualification and the ability to conduct MOTs to DVSA standards.
* Experience in setting up or contributing to the establishment of a workshop or similar business is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to inspire and lead a team.
* A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a keen eye for detail.
* Strong customer service skills and a professional demeanor.
* Valid UK driving license.

Pay: £35,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
