The Job Profile
Simon and Schuster Children’s Books is looking for a creative publicist to join one of the fastest growing Children’s Publishers in the UK. Managing PR campaigns for young readers of all ages, this is an exciting opportunity for a well-connected and organised publicist who has a passion for children’s books and is ready for their next step in publishing.
Reporting to the Head of Publicity, the Children’s Publicity Manager will be part of a team, working across picture books and fiction as well as our newly launched platform-led Gallery Kids and YA list. They will implement their own publicity campaigns, organise and attend a variety of events and liaise with authors, agents, the media, charities and industry organisations.
The role’s aim is to achieve maximum PR exposure for our books through a variety of activity whilst delivering a high level of author and illustrator care. The post holder will be responsible for:
1. Setting up media coverage for their titles and authors;
2. Writing engaging copy for press releases, festival pitches and other publicity materials;
3. Managing relationships with a variety of contacts including journalists, librarians and festival programmers;
4. Managing the budgets of their campaigns;
5. Organising and attending festivals, conferences, author tours and promotional events.
The Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and highly motivated, a creative and driven professional, preferably with experience of the publishing industry, who has previously planned and executed imaginative and creative PR campaigns. They will have good communication, written and social media skills, with a fantastic ability to multi-task.
Please note, due to the nature of the industry, the candidate may be required to work non-office hours, including weekends, evenings and overnights, to help support at publicity events and will ideally be able to be in the office in London at least three days a week.
