Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential for this patient-facing role. Knowledge of prescription processes would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job
Dispensing Team Member (Part Time 30 hrs per week - Maternity Cover)
We are looking for an experienced Dispenser who is qualified to NVQL2 or equivalent to join our friendly and supportive Dispensing Team. You must be able to demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills and be able to prioritise your workload.
A flexible, professional and enthusiastic approach is essential along with the desire to deliver an excellent service to our patients.
Working alongside other trained Dispensers, you will be responsible for providing an excellent service by dispensing prescribed medication to our patients including acute and repeat prescriptions, controlled drugs, Nomad trays, appliances and personally-administered items. Experience of stock ordering and management and the PPA claims process would be an advantage.

Job summary
To process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the principles of good practice.
Underlining everything you do is the requirement to play your part in the delivery of remarkable customer services to our patients, internal colleagues and external stakeholders. This applies in all of your dealings. There are many elements to delivering remarkable customer service but common throughout are requirements to listen and be responsive, always ensure patient and customer messages and requests are passed on and ensure any mistakes or omissions and possible improvements that are identified are shared with your manager.
Job responsibilities
1. To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
2. To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
3. To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately stored and banked, and a record kept of all financial transactions.
4. To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms in a secure manner to the NHS Prescription Services for processing and reimbursement. The forms should be bundled in accordance with current PS guidelines and include any necessary accompanying paperwork such as the FP34D and invoices as required by the PS.
5. To promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the practice manager or dispensary manager according to practice policy.
6. To notify the authorising doctor of any FP10 returns/feedback from the PS so that any appropriate remedial action may be taken.
7. To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice, with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out-of-date stock.
8. To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.
9. To ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and is in good working order.
10. To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
11. To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook.
12. To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions, incorporating the use of computers when available and appropriate.
13. Completion of Nomad tray/dosset box dispensing.
14. To work in accordance with the Practice Dispensing Standard Operating Procedures.
15. To provide counter support to the dispensary including supporting patients/carers/relatives who are collecting medication/prescriptions.
16. To process incoming repeat prescription requests and raise/resolve any queries with the prescribing doctor/nurse.
17. To act medication tasks as assigned to the dispensing team including liaison with the Primary Care Network Pharmacy Technician(s) and/or Clinical Pharmacist.
18. To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.

Person Specification
Experience
* Previous experience of Dispensing either in a GP Practice, Hospital or Community Pharmacy.
* Completion of minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised work.
* Budgets and cash handling experience.
* Knowledge of complaints systems.
* Experience with stock levels, usage tracking and re-ordering arrangements.
* Experience of S1 clinical system (not essential).
* Experience of Microsoft Office software.
* Experience of dealing with the public/patients.
* Dispensing Controlled Drugs experience.
