We are looking for Building Surveyors for a temp to perm position in Truro area, to start immediately.
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Rate: between £25-£35/h depending on experience.
Successful candidates will provide technical advice, assistance, and support to people with disabilities and older owner-occupiers in respect of home improvement works and adaptations.
The main purpose of the role:
1. Identifying property defects and solutions, preparing (or arranging to prepare) surveys, identifying hazards in the home utilizing the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
2. Giving advice on whether work to a property is technically possible, preparing schedules of work, detailed specifications, and drawings as appropriate, calculating costs.
3. Liaising with contractors and assisting with any disputes between contractors and the clients.
4. Managing caseloads.
5. Identifying hazards in the home and being responsible for issuing hazard awareness advice and for referring cases onto the Private Sector Housing Team where appropriate.
Experience / Requirements:
1. Able to carry out estate/house inspections and produce reports.
2. Liaise with administrative colleagues to organize meetings in preparation of the reports.
3. Detailed and extensive knowledge and practical experience of building construction, building defects and their remedies, the housing health & safety rating system, and the legislation relating to disabled facilities grants (DFGs).
4. Good working knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice.
5. Great verbal and written communication skills.
6. Have a supportive attitude.
7. Able to work well in a team.
8. Have 2+ years of surveying experience.
